More repairs at the Village Hall…

Hall users will be aware that since the Hall re-opened there have been a few problems with the new floor installed during the 51 week closure period in 2016-2017.

The council carried out a temporary repair a few weeks ago, prior to replacing the floor completely. This was provisionally scheduled for the schools’ Half Term week (16th – 20th October) to cause minimum disruption to the majority of hall users, and should not take more than a week.

Regular hall users have already been informed of these dates, and we are not accepting bookings for individual events (parties etc) for the weekends before and after Half Term.

We will contact anyone with a pre-existing booking should these dates be changed by the Council.

If you have any concerns about a booking already made, whether regular or one-off, or would like more information about booking the Hall at any time, please email our Bookings Administrator. You can also phone the Village Hall at any time – 0131 458 3751 (answering machine out of office hours).

AGM 2017

The 2017 Village Hall AGM will take place on Thursday 25th May at 7.30pm in the Village Hall again!

Refreshments will be available from 7.15pm.  All welcome!

Please do join us for an initial (mini) celebration of the re-opening of the Hall after a closure of almost 12 months.  This is your opportunity to see what work has been done since the Hall was closed on 4th May 2016, including a new DDA compliant ramp, DG windows, and re-varnished floor.

We were overwhelmed by the huge turnout at last year’s AGM in one of the Church Halls(standing room only!) when it was obvious how much the community values the Hall and supported us in our campaign to retain it as a village amenity.

This year’s AGM is your opportunity to tell us now what you would like us to do over the coming year.  What facilities are missing? What sort of events should be hold in the Hall?  How do we properly celebrate the re-opening?

Even better – if you want to influence our decision-making over the next year,  why not join the Management Committee?  Meetings take place monthly except December and July.  We would particularly welcome Youth Members to the Committee (aged 16 years or over).

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Juniper Green Village Hall re-opens – at last!

After almost 12 months of delays in every aspect of the repair work from planning to implementation, the Village Hall was finally handed back to the community on the afternoon of Thursday 27th April.

There are still one or two snagging issues to be sorted out, and the playgroup garden is not quite ready for use, but the Hall itself is available again for our regular users and for those who would like to book a party or other weekend event.   Please go to our Contact page if you would like more information or to make a booking.

The Hall WILL re-open – but not immediately

The most recent survey has confirmed, as we always believed, that the extent of the damage is not nearly as widespread as initially suggested, and that in fact, with the exception of repair work required for the west gable, the structure of the hall as a whole is essentially sound.

A 5-year plan of repair and upgrading work has been drafted, with the west gable at the top of the list. Unfortunately the immediate work requires a Building Warrant – a lengthy piece of bureaucracy which has still to be set in motion – so there seems little chance of the hall reopening in mid-August for the start of the new session, with the earliest date possibly November or later.

Go to our Save Juniper Green Facebook page for the most recent post on 22nd July by our Chairman, Malcolm Brown, which gives more detail about the current situation.

It is however important that we continue to keep up the pressure on our local representatives to push for action and to let them see how much, and how soon, we want our hall back in action.

Public Meeting on 23rd June Postponed

Monday 20th June:
We have heard today that due to the extent of survey work required to properly assess the structure of the Village Hall (including rot), it will not be possible to make a full report available in time for the public meeting scheduled for Thursday 23rd June.

This meeting has therefore been postponed until we have more information.

Details of a new meeting date and relevant updates on the survey work will be posted when we have them on this site and also on the Save Juniper Green Village Hall Facebook page.

Please continue to support our campaign to have all necessary repairs carried out and the hall re-opened.

Village Hall AGM – 26th May

It was standing room only at our AGM last Thursday – wonderful to see so many local people attending in support of our Village Hall!

The Councillors in attendance, Ricky Henderson (Lab) and Bill Henderson (SNP), faced many questions from the floor. The meeting was presented with two possible options – a new survey of the whole hall (not just the west wall), by a different firm and with costings included and with a view to possible repair of the west wall, or new build on the existing site. Option 1 was expected to be less costly overall and would hopefully have an earlier outcome. Option 2 would offer superior facilities, but with a cost estimate of £2m over a projected minimum timescale of 2-4 yrs. There was an overwhelming vote in favour of option 1.

Our next Management Committee meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd June. Provided we have more information from the Council following further surveys of the hall, this will be a Public Meeting, 7.00-9.00pm in the gym hall in Juniper Green Primary School which everyone with an interest in the Village Hall’s future is welcome to attend.

Watch this space for more details and updates.

Juniper Green Village Hall closed

Juniper Green Village Hall has been closed with effect from the evening of Wednesday 4th May, following the discovery of a perceived ‘fault’ in one of the gable walls.

Most classes and other activities have now been moved to a range of other premises in the local area until this can be investigated further and appropriate remedial action taken.

Further updates will be posted here as soon as we have them, but if you have any enquiries regarding the hall in the meantime please contact us.

Please do not phone the Village Hall as there is no-one there at present to take calls or check messages.
